Homemade Dog Treat Recipe using Ingredients from your Pantry

We wanted to find an easy to make recipe that was quick and healthy for dogs and we stumbled across a blog called “The Sustainable Couple” check them out. It’s a blog about the self-sufficiency pursuits of an Iowa couple living on a homestead in the city. First, gather the following ingredients:

2 c. whole wheat flour

1 c. peanut butter

1 T. baking powder

1 c. milk 1/2 c. ground flax meal or ground corn meal (optional – but I use it.)

Yes, that’s it. Next, mix the peanut butter and milk in a large bowl until smooth. Add everything else into that same large bowl, mix well, and pop it in the fridge for about 20 minutes or so, which will allow the dough to be workable. After about 20 minutes, grab a hunk of the dough and plop it onto a lightly floured surface. Homemade dog treat You’ll want to grab a rolling pin and a pizza cutter, and preheat your oven to 180 degrees C Homemade dog treats While your oven is preheating, roll out the dough. I cut mine pretty small, since I have a tendency to give out lots of treats 🙂 Homemade dog treats Arrange the dough on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown and crunchy. Let those treats cool, and throw ’em in a freezer baggie. Leave out enough that your dog will eat throughout the week, and put the rest in the freezer so they stay fresh.
